Rough around the edges
This resort has 5-star bones but 4-star service at times, 1-star at others. The good: The Oriente breakfast buffet is outstanding as are restaurants Cello and Saffron. The unfortunate: Finer details are often missing, neglected, or overlooked, and you have to complain for resolution. Upon check in our room was not properly finished so we had to request lacking amenities. The in-villa pool's filter was not working so we had to request service. To get ice to the room at any time you have to request it. If your provided bicycle has sticky handlebars like mine did and you want a different one, you have to request it. If you want to eat dinner, reservations are required everywhere and you have to request them. If you dial "0" on the telephone, often no one will pick up so you have to walk .5 miles to the lobby to get anywhere and then the employees look at you stunned that you are frustrated by this. Ultimately, we still made our trip a good time but too often it felt in spite of the resort, not because of it.

Relaxing and restful stay at the Banyan Tree
This was our 5th time staying at the Mayakoba Banyan Tree (family of 5). We’ve always have had great visits. This time, our entire experience was enhanced by the assistance of Sonia and Abi Paola, our assigned concierges. They were fantastic and made an always wonderful time even more enjoyable. Thank you!

The service was truly incredible! We were treated like family and enjoyed every minute of our vacation! We loved the concierge service and were able to rest and relax during our stay.
