Reviews for Alexandra Resort

4 Stars with Potential to be 5

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We visited end August from Monday to Saturday. We were welcomed with towels and fruit punch at the front desk, room was ready and were driven by a buggy to our room within minutes. Room was 3xx4, nice, large, fully equipped, Clean, Fridge stocked with water, soda and light beer. Bed and sofa bed were both quite comfortable, room ac worked really well, huge main bathroom and second bathroom, laundry, dishwasher, kitchen, all In room, 2 TVs, lounges and seating in the porch…all awesome! Resort is very clean and well maintained. Beach…one of the best I’ve seen. Crystal clear blue waters, very little waves, white sands, hardly any stones, etc. A lot of water activity right from the beach. Someone is cleaning the pool every morning, cutting and clearing dead branches off of palm trees, pest control daily to help with ants and so much more. Very well managed resort overall. Food was good overall, Asu (buffet) could do better with selection on certain days (Seafood night, there was no other protein). Kids menu should be a must…at every meal and at all restaurants and ice cream too! Water was safe to drink, but you won’t like the flavor (not a resort issue). All inclusive drinks were quite impressive as well! Service was great all around except for the towel guy (a little rude when he was there, and that was once in our entire stay). Pool aerobics was great and so was pool volleyball (other activities we didn’t partake)…Thank you Shaq! Music was good for the most part. Overall, nice quiet stay until Friday when the music got louder, it got it a little more crowded and the crowd was rowdier. Check out process was very quick and they had already got our taxi waiting. They just forgot to mention that the bell boy doesn’t start until 9am, so you will have to take your own luggage to the front desk if you have an earlier flight. We also met a new manager who had just started and she was really trying to improve the service even more! Some other notes…Beaches, nearby is a bigger resort, more pools, activities/shows, water slides, lazy river, etc. It may be a better option depending on your needs, but it's usually more crowded. Also, Immigration at the airport took about 90 minutes of waiting in line (huge turn off for returning to Turks and Caicos). Departing was much quicker and airport has a few nice stores.

Good first time in Turks

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Met the family in Turks for a great week! Our trip was smooth for the most part. We ended up doing Unique Tours horseback riding (would not recommend if you are looking for more of an exciting ride, we just walked circles in the ocean) but snorkeling with Caicos Dream tours was amazing and worth the money! Our rooms were spacious and housekeeping did a great job making sure they were ready for us when we came back for the day. In terms of food, the buffet was OK, typical spread for what you would expect. Black rock and fire and ice were worth the reservations, however, you were not able to make a reservation until the day you want to go Which was frustrating as we had a bigger group and we’re unable to get reservations on a few of our nights. The activities team was great, Trying to engage the guests at the resort. Cheeke and Romaine The best and really put the Special details into our trip. In terms of the bar staff, Nathaly at The coconut bar was our favorite. Staff at the beach bar were not as engaging and we found that they were more Interested in talking to each other than serving the guests. Overall, we had a great time

Love the Alexandra!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I recently stayed at the Alexandra for my birthday at the beginning of August. This was my 3rd time visiting TCI and staying at the Alexandra. Each time has been wonderful, and I recommend anyone (couples, families, adults) stay here. I took my daughter for the first two trips, and this past trip was a “mom’s trip” with my bestie. The resort is safe and has everything within close walking distance.  The staff is wonderful, and they treat you like family. The all-inclusive meal and drink options are the best for me. The restaurants are great, and I love the food.  I noticed they added some new things to the menu. For example, they had ribeye steak at the Blackrock, which is my favorite. It was delicious. The views from the restaurant are lovely too! We ventured off and went to Hemmingway’s at the Sands Hotel, and the view was not as nice.  The staff was wonderful, and I love them all!  I have to say the people are one of the reasons that I love this resort so much. Before we stayed in the Marilyn, which has partial ocean views, I loved the one-bedroom suites.  It is a must to have two bathrooms when traveling with others.  I had requested the 3rd floor because my daughter and I love Francilla.   We were fortunate and surprised to be placed in Lady Rose, which is oceanfront! We had a one-bedroom suite with the same layout as the others, but it was huge!  It had a huge dining table, living room closet, washer/dryer, and a full kitchen. They stock the fridge every day with water and soda.  Just ask for extra water bottles, and they will give you more.  We still had a view from the first floor, and sitting on the couch or the bed and seeing the ocean was the best thing for me. There are some first-floor rooms where the view is limited by the sand dunes being raised.  When we arrived, there was a bottle of champagne and cheese, crackers, and a fruit plate with a birthday note from the resort!  I was so appreciative of the staff members and the efforts they made to make our visit enjoyable. The breakfast selection is buffet style and has various options, including omelet bar, pastries, fruit, and hot breakfast foods. Gloria was accommodating during breakfast. The main central bar is my go-to spot whether I am at the beach or wherever. Keisha was one of the best, and I appreciate how she made my grey goose drinks!  They have top-shelf liquors, wines (Pino grigio and chardonnay), and beer.  Bring an insulated cup to keep drinks cold while at beach.  Last year, we had Trishaunna and I was happy to be able to see her as well.  Sky was also wonderful at making margaritas! There is also a smoothie bar that has delicious icecream. You can order from the restaurant or get some of the delicious jerk chicken when available for lunch. They have snacks close to the smoothie bar (chips, pastries, muffins). The dinner buffet was good and had a variety of things (cheeseburger, pasta station). When we first arrived, we had the option of the truck stop or the buffet, which was nice to have two options instead of one like before. 7pm is a good time for reservations because the sun will be setting and views are beautiful. The beach and ocean access is one of the best I have experienced. It is close and nice to have chairs, an umbrella, and a table. There were always spots available, just get out there early for the front row. I have seen other resorts, and they do not have umbrellas or tables, which are essential for long days at the beach.  They do not have water bottles anymore, so make sure to bring a water bottle to fill up while at the beach! The beach entertainment was a daily event we looked forward to, and we enjoyed the staff who engaged with the guests. Rhazzor and Cheeky were awesome, and we love them!  We played several games and trivia each day. Forty was also great and very helpful!  I also have to mention Mariline because we met her on our first trip and she was the best!  She made sure we were good and had everything we needed. I appreciate her so much and how awesome she is for making me feel special on my birthday. Thank you, Mariline! The staff at the front desk are also wonderful and willing to help, whether you need a taxi or have any questions. When we were checking out, they let us keep our things at the front desk so we could continue to enjoy the beach/bar/restaurants since our flight was not until after 4pm. There is also a shower available in the lobby, so you can change. The staff hooked it up with a private taxi to the airport and charged the normal price. Thank you!!!  Taxi tip- Tavare Gibbons and DC are drivers I would recommend.  Oh, we also ventured to Blue Haven for the first time. It is a beautiful resort. It has one building and is located on the marina. There is a small beach (Alexandra is way better) and a pool with a swim-up bar looking over the water. They also have a restaurant on the beach and daily entertainment for the guests. If you have time, I would take the shuttle and visit for a couple of hours.

Don't HESITATE! Book it!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I have travelled to all inclusives in many different countries and price points. This resort doesn't disappoint. The beach is absolutely breathtaking. Check in was simple. Our room was not ready (we arrived before check in time) and we were allowed to go have lunch and then return around 3. Our room was impeccably clean and updated. We stayed in the garden view rooms in building 3. We were hardly in our room, other than to shower and sleep. After reading some other reviews, I was apprehensive about service but found only a couple of people to be unkind. Farrar at the beach bar is the biggest sweetheart! She ALWAYS had a smile on her face and was so friendly. She was definitely a highlight of our trip. Also, Cheeky, Lettuce, and Barbie with the entertainment staff. Skyers and Ronald were also memorable. They smiled every time they saw us. They were always asking us how we're doing, making sure we were having fun, and engaged in lots of fun conversations. The pool is being remodeled very soon. It is older, but we didn't spend much time there. People mentioned it being murky, however people enter with sand and tons of sunscreen on. The food and drink was another highlight. We LOVED Black Rock grill and the beach side BBQ was delicious! Tons of drink options and the breakfasts were delicious as well. We went for my husband's birthday and did not bring our young children. However, we would most certainly bring them back to this beautiful place. I saw multiple kids run up and hug staff and the staff knew their names and were just as happy to see them. We went over to Blue Haven one afternoon and had an excellent time. But the beach is not even comparable. The food there was delicious and it was very nice to have the option to go over there. We really enjoyed the kayaks, hobie cat, and snorkeling. The watersports staff was helpful and friendly. We brought some small floats and they blew them up for us. Overall, I would not hesitate to book this resort again and again. We had a relaxing, fun, stress free vacation and cannot wait to go back! Thank you Alexandra!!

Disappointing All-Inclusive Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

I generally don't write reviews but really don't want other travelers going to the Alexandra Resort with high expectations only to be disappointed. Honestly the resort has a good rating and I thought the negative reviews were outliers. That was a mistake. A few comments: Upon arriving to the resort you stop at the front desk. Other all-inclusives we have been to generally have a nice reception area with welcoming staff. At the Alexandra Resort the front desk/reception area is essentially a renovated bus stop with staff that just seemed like they didn't want to be there. First room we were given had the overwhelming smell of mold and mildew. Tried staying there for a night but could not deal with it and asked to change rooms the next morning. The front desk staff agreed to change our room but said we needed to wait till noon for new room to be ready and to come back. Came back at noon, room still not ready, come back at 3. Came back at 3, room still not ready and was told to come back "later". After asking to speak to someone about this, the general manager walked over handed us a slip with a new room number and said it's in the renovated building. New room was nice and didn't smell. The situation was a hassle for us and seemed like we were "inconveniencing" the staff. The overall experience at an all inclusive was lacking and unwelcoming *In general the staff at the resort seemed uninterested in being hospitable. - If you asked for anything above the minimum you received a dismissive response. We were a group of 8, there was always someone who didn't get their lunch or dinner and if you brought this to the attention of your server maybe they would correct it, eventually (after everyone else was done eating). Getting a 2nd drink or refill was hit or miss. - Maybe it's my expectation but I assumed staff at an all inclusive would be congenial, that's not the case here. To be fair some were nice and good-natured personnel but on the whole that's not the case. The sister resort at the Blue Haven had a much better environment. Bartenders/Wait staff that smiled and said hi. The one night we had dinner at the Fire and Ice Restaurant our waiter Andre was so good we tipped him very well since it was such a big difference from the rest of our stay. If I decided to come back to T&C I'd definitely pick the Blue Haven over the Alexandra even though the beach area is pretty small. I'd probably just go with a different resort all together. Positives * Beach at the Alexandra is great. A lot of seating and water is crystal clear and calm. * Food at the Alexandra was pretty good.....if it actually shows up * Blue Haven Staff - activities director, wait and bartending staff were all nice and accommodating Negatives * Alexandra Staff demeanor. Expect the bare minimum here and you won't be underwhelmed * Resort facilities are dated - Reception area, pool and unrenovated buildings are in need of serious attention.
