There are not enough superlatives to describe our stay at the Palace as it was an exceptional stay from start to finish. This fabulous hotel is an old-world stunner with modern charm. We arrived on my daughter's 30th birthday and I had written ahead to guest relations to help make it special. When we arrived, our standard room was upgraded to a gorgeous beach front room and when my daughter opened the door she was greeted by balloons, champagne, a custom made, dairy-free birthday cake, and a framed photo of my daughter and me. It couldn't have been more special, and I cannot thank Ms. Ingrid Souza of Guest Relations enough. She went above and beyond to provide an incomparable birthday surprise and she checked in throughout our multi-night stay to ensure everything was perfect. Leo at the front desk provided an exceptionally warm welcome, and remembered our names and greeted us every time we walked by the front desk. For those with food allergies, the hotel took the utmost care to ensure that there were plenty of meal options, and they even had a separate section for gluten free items with a separate toaster. Mee Restaurant was a highlight for birthday dinner. One of our best meals ever. We spent a good deal of time at the spa, which was wonderful. The pool area is gorgeous, the bed and room amenities were perfect, and there was a safe, private beach area right across the street. The entire staff was attentive, warm and welcoming. If we could have stayed a week, we would have, but we will certainly return, maybe not so much for Rio, but certainly to enjoy this glorious, exceptional hotel.

The hotel looks stunning from the outside and in a prime position of the beach. There were many security guards, trying to keep the riff raff out. I was so underwhelmingly dressed that security asked me each time whether I was a guest every time I entered. The pool had beautiful guests, the restaurant had men in classic wear and women in stunning evening gowns, even the staff were beautifully dressed, well spoken, friendly and professional. Cannott fault their service The room was beautiful, comfortable and roomy. However, we were located at the back of the hotel where we had lovely views of the apartments across. We kept our curtains closed most of the time. There was a complimentary sweets trolley by the reception. The steam rooms were lovely with separate ones for men and women. My group had to leave early for a flight, and we were given breakfast boxes. It was most disappointing from a hotel of that calibre. A dry white unbuttered sandwich with one piece of cheese and ham, 2 chocolate chip cookies, an apple and a bottle of water. Considering their buffet breakfast was outstanding, the hotel could have done better. TIPS: On the beach directly across the hotel there is a white tent that will provide beach chair, towels and water for hotel guests. Ask the concierge for details. There are several laundry services nearby. Turn left and left of hotel. I paid R50 for a full basket of clothes. Several cafes, restaurants and bakeries nearby A few blocks from the hotel, there is an outdoor market selling souvenirs, etc. Turn left and walk about 10 mins, parallel to the beach.

A comfortable, classic hotel- really a resort experience. Top-notch service, in a timeless, but well-equipped up-to-date property that is across from an expansive beach. The beach and the beach scene match what one conjures up in one's imagination as an engaging and wonderful Brazilian beach experience. If you are going to Rio, this property deserves your attention as a place to relax and enjoy what Rio has to offer.
