South Caicos
South Caicos exists today as one of the few unspoiled tropical destinations. Among the smaller islands in the Turks and Caicos Islands, (eight square miles), South Caicos is renowned for white powder beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, ocean-side bluffs, quiet bays and salt-water flats teeming with pink flamingos. Cockburn Harbour town is home to most of the island’s eight hundred (800) residents. With Caribbean-inspired homes on narrow streets lined with native stonewalls, the village harkens back to a simpler time and lifestyle. The charming and authentic Caribbean atmosphere of a village imbued with hundreds of years of rich history and culture is a rare find in a resort destination.
Environment
Relatively untouched by humans, South Caicos’ reef system is considered the healthiest and most vibrant in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Over fifty (50) species of coral abound, with spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, grouper, snapper and dolphin fish all part of this spectacular reef system, making it a premier SCUBA diving and snorkeling destination.
The waters surrounding South Caicos offer a diverse and spectacular background. The turquoise waters to the south and east turn to a deep cobalt blue just past the coral reef system, where the water drops from fifty (50) feet to seven thousand (7000) feet. It is here where anglers find world-class offshore sport fishing for sailfish, wahoo, mahi-mahi, marlin and yellow-fin tuna. The shallow waters of Caicos Banks to the west, is considered a haven for bonefishing.
Sailrock
Sailrock is a low-density resort & residence community, set on the southern portion of Sailrock Peninsula. Situated on a ridge sixty feet above the sparkling Columbus passage to the east and the Caicos Bank to the west. Sailrock boasts spectacular sunrise and sunset views. Clean Caribbean architecture defines Great House, with large, shaded verandas, and pool decks, which place the emphasis on casual comfort and laid back outdoor living.

We stayed 3 nights but wished it could have been longer. This is a beautiful property and the staff are are all top notch. I was lucky enough to have one of the villas. I didn't want to leave. They are very large and the private pool was so great. The water was warm (they can change the temperature) but it made it so nice to sit in and watch the stars at night. So many stars and such a memory. You can get to the beach from villa down a sandy hill. You also have the the cove which they can take you in the buggy's if you don't want to walk. Outdoor shower is nice but lots of mosquitos so be aware. The food was good and lots of choices. Only issue was when they did the beach night and they had too many people at once and it took long time for food to arrive. Otherwise all was great. The massages, ATV tours and cocktail class are all really good. If you want a relaxing vacation or something with activities this is for you. I would come back in a heartbeat.

There is definitely a private island vibe here and it is beautiful and quiet. We have been to several islands over the years and were intrigued by supposed ease of the American Airlines flight that is brand new to South Caicos. One thing to note: if you take that flight - you must go through Customs in Miami and then back through TSA - which is a total nightmare. We had to run to make our flight to NYC. Will never do it again and cannot recommend. As far as Sailrock, while there were many lovely things about the resort including very friendly staff, the poor service wore us down eventually (we were there for 3 nights). Waiting endlessly for food to arrive, housekeeping leaving dishes out for 2 nights in our villa, asking us to leave to go to the airport 3.5 hours early (where there is not even a concession stand yet). It did not ruin our trip and we had a fun time with our family, but ultimately the service was poor to the level of that we would not return. It is a pity because the resort itself is really private and cool.

By far the nicest staff I have encountered. My little brother has special needs and the staff was just so friendly and supportive and matched his energy. The villas were wonderful and everything was set up so nicely for us. The beds were incredibly comfortable and clean and the cleaning staff did a wonderful job of cleaning each day. I would say that it was harder to find activities for younger childern. As a young adult I found many things to do& excursions but it was much harder finding activities for my younger brother. All in all this resort was incredible and the staff was amazing.

The villa accommodations were grand, the views spectacular, the food very good and the staff was impeccable. Andre and Kiki were truly outstanding and their staff members were the highlight of our stay. We had a 3 bedroom villa with views of the ocean right past our covered lanai and private heated pool. The protected cove on the other side of the property was a recreation lovers paradise. Lounge chairs, beach bars, warm turquoise waters with suspended net floats. Catamarans , paddle boards and kayaks at your disposal all day. Everything you could want was at your convenience. The staff… and I don’t know all of their names, Karley, Sher, Roberto, Kathy, Mario…I wish I could name everyone appropriately. They were the friendliest staff I have ever encountered anywhere! If I get the chance to return I will in a heartbeat!
