Originally built 250 years ago as a summer palace, Taj Lake Palace has been returned to its former glory, with one sole purpose: the pursuit of leisure. You will feel like honored guests of the Maharana in this exquisite white marble testimony to courtly love, which seems to float like a dream on the still waters of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, India. With their opulent silks, richly colored murals and ornately carved wood furniture, bedrooms and suites offer the ultimate romantic ambience.

From the time Madhu navigated us for perhaps the best heritage property when we were planning and were spoilt for choices of hotels, and for each day of our three night stay , it has been a privilege which deserves platitudes beyond words, our gratitude and our applause. Tanuja and Chef Muskaan and Yuvraj at Jharoka, Mahendra at Neel Kamal and ever so helpful Disha on front desk, we were pampered with services which were beyond the ever so gracious and exalted Taj Standards. Must applaud the housekeeping staff too. Our daughter for married at Taj Mansingh in January and we were pampered there to. Will visit with family after our kids in US and Canada give us their schedule of their vacations. Take a bow. Shruti and Adarsh Sharma 9810074285

Staying at the Taj Lake Palace is like stepping into a living fairytale. Floating serenely on the shimmering waters of Lake Pichola, this palace is not just a hotel—it’s an experience steeped in royalty, romance, and timeless beauty. Our room was exquisite, blending rich heritage with modern luxury. The intricate detailing, antique furnishings, and plush comfort made every moment feel indulgent. But it’s the view that truly steals your breath away—panoramic scenes of the lake, City Palace, and the Aravalli Hills, all bathed in golden Rajasthani light. The culture is woven into every corner, from the traditional welcome with rose petals and drums to the graceful boat rides and evening folk performances under the stars. You don’t just stay here—you’re embraced by a legacy. Taj Lake Palace is not just special—it’s so, so special. It’s a place where every detail is crafted with love, and where you leave a piece of your heart behind. A true jewel of Udaipur, and without a doubt, one of the most enchanting stays we've ever had.

The hotel staff are exemplary and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The food is good though breakfast presentation and selection can be improved with more healthy/artisan choices of bread and pastries. Staff are vigilant and noticed if something was amiss and would make sure the chef was informed of any likes dislikes and special requests. The hotel is unique and most people would probably come for this reason and it’s historical significance. For us however, as charming as the hotel is, it’s just too dated and in dire need of renovation. The hotel is constructed like a leisure ship but with fewer outside terraces. There aren’t many outside leisure spaces to enjoy the view and those that are available are plagued by pigeons and bats. As a result there is extensive netting to stop pigeons swooping in and staff are constantly swatting them away and clearing droppings. There are 3 restaurants but the only outdoor one was closed for the summer season whilst we were there. The above points are not widely shared and website hotel photos misleading. It’s expensive and guests should be aware of pros and cons. I actually think we might have checked out had the hotel not upgraded us from the basic luxury bedroom we had booked …it was so small, dated and claustrophobic.
